Drug intelligence / Profile preview
6'-Sialyllactose (6'-SL) is a sialylated human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) that is naturally occurring in human breast milk. Developed by Glycosyn as a nutritional ingredient and prebiotic, it is primarily intended for use in infant formula and dietary supplements to support digestive health, immune function, and general wellness. As a prebiotic oligosaccharide, 6'-SL selectively promotes the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, such as *Bifidobacterium* and *Lactobacillus*, while inhibiting the adhesion of harmful pathogens to the intestinal mucosa. Furthermore, 6'-SL serves as a source of sialic acid, which is a critical component for brain development, specifically in the formation of gangliosides and the myelination of nerve cells. Glycosyn is also conducting preclinical research to explore the potential of 6'-SL in treating or preventing medical conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and infectious diarrhea.
