AEAC, also known as 6-(2-aminoethyl)amino-5-chlorouracil, is a novel small-molecule inhibitor of thymidine phosphorylase (TP). TP is an enzyme overexpressed in many human cancers, where its activity is correlated with increased microvessel density, more aggressive tumors, and poorer patient prognosis. By inhibiting TP, AEAC demonstrates antiangiogenic and antitumor activity. It has been studied in combination with a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-trap, suggesting its potential role in combination therapies for cancer.
