Drug intelligence / Profile preview
68Ga-DOTA-UBI(29-41) is an investigational radiolabeled peptide diagnostic agent designed for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of bacterial infections. It consists of the synthetic cationic antimicrobial peptide fragment ubiquicidin 29-41 (UBI 29-41) conjugated to the chelator DOTA and labeled with the positron-emitting radioisotope gallium-68 (68Ga). The cationic peptide fragment specifically targets the anionic membranes of viable bacteria, allowing the tracer to accumulate at sites of active bacterial infection. This mechanism enables the differentiation of bacterial infections, such as chronic osteomyelitis and bone or soft-tissue infections, from sterile inflammation. The radiopharmaceutical is primarily developed within academic and hospital radiopharmacy settings, with clinical evaluation including pilot PET/CT studies in patients with chronic osteomyelitis.
