8,12-dimethoxysanguinarine (SG-A) is a novel benzophenanthridine alkaloid derivative isolated from the Chinese medicinal herb *Eomecon chionantha*. It exhibits potent antineoplastic activity, specifically demonstrated in MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines with an IC50 value of 7.45 μM. Unlike many traditional chemotherapeutic agents that trigger apoptosis, SG-A has been shown to induce non-apoptotic cell death via the necroptosis pathway. This mechanism was confirmed through flow cytometry, Hoechst 33258 staining, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) cell morphology analysis. Its ability to bypass apoptotic pathways suggests potential utility in treating both sensitive and treatment-resistant forms of breast cancer.
