Overview

8,9-epoxyeicosatrienoic acid (8,9-EET) is a bioactive lipid metabolite produced from arachidonic acid by cytochrome P450 (CYP) epoxygenases. It serves as a key signaling molecule in the cardiovascular and renal systems, where it acts as an endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF). 8,9-EET induces vasodilation by activating large-conductance calcium-activated potassium (BK) channels in vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to hyperpolarization and relaxation. Additionally, it possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties, partly through the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) and the inhibition of NF-κB signaling. OMM Scientific provides the racemic (±) form of 8,9-EET as a research compound for investigating eicosanoid biology and potential therapeutic applications in hypertension and inflammatory disorders.
