Overview

8-pCPT-2'-O-Me-cAMP is a cell-permeable, stable analog of cyclic AMP (cAMP) that acts as a potent and selective activator of the exchange protein directly activated by cAMP (Epac), specifically Epac1 and Epac2. Unlike traditional cAMP analogs like 8-Br-cAMP, it does not significantly activate protein kinase A (PKA) at commonly used concentrations, making it a critical tool for distinguishing between PKA-dependent and Epac-dependent signaling pathways. In research contexts, it has been used to study various physiological processes, including insulin secretion, vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation, and inflammatory responses. In the context of pulmonary hypertension research, it has been evaluated for its effects on arginase II expression and cell proliferation, though it often shows distinct activity compared to PKA-activating analogs.
