800-rhNGF+800-rhBDNF is a dual-targeted fluorescence imaging agent developed by Manzanita Pharmaceuticals for intraoperative nerve visualization. The product consists of recombinant human nerve growth factor (rhNGF) and recombinant human brain-derived neurotrophic factor (rhBDNF), both conjugated to a near-infrared fluorescent dye (800 nm). By targeting the high-affinity neurotrophin receptors TrkA (NTRK1) and TrkB (NTRK2) expressed on nerve fibers, the agent allows for real-time identification of neuronal structures during surgery. This 'nerve paint' technology is intended to help surgeons avoid accidental nerve damage, thereby preventing post-operative complications such as paresthesias and other sensory or motor deficits. It is currently in the proof-of-concept (POC) stage of development for various surgical indications.
