89Zr-DFO-PSMAi-PEG-Cy5.5-C' dots is an investigational, dual-modality (PET/optical) silica-based nanoparticle tracer designed for the imaging and surgical guidance of prostate cancer. These nanoparticles, belonging to the Cornell Prime dots (C' dots) platform, are functionalized with a prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) inhibitor (PSMAi) to target tumor cells. The particle surface is coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) for biocompatibility and incorporates a Cy5.5 fluorescent dye for near-infrared intraoperative optical imaging. Additionally, it features a desferrioxamine (DFO) chelator to bind the positron-emitting radioisotope zirconium-89 (89Zr) for preoperative PET/MRI imaging. This multimodal approach is intended to provide high-resolution localization of cancerous deposits both before and during surgery.
