99mTc-MDP + meloxicam is a combination of two agents used in nuclear medicine and pharmacology research. 99mTc-MDP (technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate) is a radiopharmaceutical widely used for bone imaging due to its high affinity for hydroxyapatite crystals in bone, allowing visualization of areas with altered osteogenesis or increased bone turnover. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), reducing inflammation and pain. Studies have investigated the pharmacokinetic interaction between these two agents, particularly how pre-treatment with meloxicam affects the biodistribution and elimination of 99mTc-MDP. Research in animal models indicates that administration of meloxicam can accelerate the elimination half-life of 99mTc-MDP, resulting in lower uptake by bone tissue—the primary target for diagnostic imaging—potentially impacting image quality[1][2][3]. This combination does not represent an approved therapeutic product but rather an area of experimental investigation into drug-radiopharmaceutical interactions.
