Overview

This is a combination of six antiretroviral drugs used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The components are: - Abacavir and lamivudine, both nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) - Emtricitabine, also an NRTI - Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI) - Efavirenz and rilpivirine, both non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) Each drug inhibits HIV replication by targeting the viral reverse transcriptase enzyme but through different mechanisms or binding sites. This combination is not available as a single co-formulated product; rather, it represents the concurrent use of multiple approved antiretrovirals from different classes. Such regimens may be considered in highly treatment-experienced patients with multidrug-resistant HIV or for research purposes but are not standard due to overlapping toxicities and potential drug-drug interactions.
