Overview

Abacavir + indinavir is an oral combination of two antiretroviral drugs used as part of combination antiretroviral therapy for the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. **Abacavir** is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that inhibits HIV reverse transcriptase, causing chain termination in viral DNA synthesis and preventing replication[1][2][4]. **Indinavir** is a protease inhibitor which prevents the cleavage of HIV gag-pol polyproteins into mature viral proteins required for infectious virus production. Each drug targets a distinct stage of the HIV replication cycle, and they are used together in multi-drug regimens to reduce viral load and risk of resistance[3][4]. There is no known commercial single-tablet or fixed-dose product of abacavir + indinavir; both are dispensed as their individual formulations.
