ABBV-4083 + albendazole is a combination of two small molecule oral drugs under clinical investigation primarily for the treatment of onchocerciasis (river blindness). \n- **ABBV-4083** (also known as flubentylosin, formerly TylAMac) is a tylosin A analog macrolide antibiotic developed to target and deplete the endosymbiotic bacterium Wolbachia within filarial nematodes, thereby impairing worm fertility and facilitating macrofilaricidal activity[1][4][7]. \n- **Albendazole** is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic that inhibits microtubule formation, commonly used for the treatment of a wide range of helminth infections[3]. \nThe combination is being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials as a potentially shorter and more effective regimen for onchocerciasis compared to current therapies. Preclinical and clinical data indicate potential for improved efficacy of Wolbachia depletion and embryogenesis inhibition when ABBV-4083 and albendazole are used together versus either drug alone[3][7].
