Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Abiraterone decanoate + dexamethasone** is a combination investigational product composed of abiraterone decanoate, a long-acting intramuscular prodrug of abiraterone, and dexamethasone, a synthetic glucocorticoid. Abiraterone is a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme cytochrome P450 17A1 (CYP17A1), which is required for androgen biosynthesis; its inhibition leads to reduced androgen production, a key driver in prostate cancer. Dexamethasone is included to mitigate mineralocorticoid excess caused by abiraterone’s CYP17A1 inhibition and may exert additional antitumor and anti-inflammatory effects. The combination is being evaluated in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC), aiming for sustained testosterone suppression and convenient intramuscular dosing with durable activity[1][3][5].
