acebrophylline (Lucky's Pharma)

Acebrophylline is an airway mucus regulator with anti-inflammatory and bronchodilating properties. It is chemically a conjugate of ambroxol and theophylline-7-acetate. The theophylline component acts as a bronchodilator by inhibiting phosphodiesterase (PDE), which increases intracellular cAMP levels and leads to smooth muscle relaxation. The ambroxol component acts as a mucolytic by increasing surfactant production and reducing mucus viscosity, thereby facilitating expectoration. Additionally, acebrophylline inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators such as leukotrienes and prostaglandins by inhibiting phospholipase A2. It is primarily indicated for the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma.
