Overview
Acebrophylline + acetylcysteine is a fixed-dose combination small-molecule drug used for the management of obstructive airway diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma, and chronic bronchitis. The combination consists of acebrophylline, a bronchodilator and mucoregulator that combines ambroxol and theophylline-7-acetate to relax airway smooth muscle and enhance mucociliary clearance, and acetylcysteine, a potent mucolytic agent that reduces mucus viscosity by breaking disulfide bonds in mucoproteins. Together, these agents work synergistically to reduce airway resistance, facilitate the clearance of thick secretions, and provide antioxidant protection to lung tissues. The drug is primarily marketed in India and has demonstrated efficacy in improving lung function (FEV1) and quality of life in patients with moderate to severe respiratory conditions.
