Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calfina Plus is a fixed-dose combination analgesic containing acetaminophen (paracetamol) and tramadol hydrochloride. Developed and marketed by AGP, it is approved for the management of moderate to severe pain, including postoperative pain, musculoskeletal pain, backache, osteoarthritic pain, and painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic that binds to mu-opioid receptors and weakly inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin. Acetaminophen is a non-opiate, non-salicylate analgesic that acts centrally to reduce pain and fever. The combination of these two agents provides synergistic pain relief, allowing for lower doses of tramadol and a reduced risk of opioid-related side effects.
