acetic acid + lactic acid

Acetic acid + lactic acid (ICTALA) is an investigational intravaginal combination pessary developed by Griffith University for the prevention of recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC). The formulation contains 3% acetic acid (38 mg) and 2% lactic acid (57 mg) in a gelatine/glycerine base, designed to modulate the vaginal environment by maintaining a low pH (approximately 3.85–3.9). This acidification creates a hostile environment for *Candida* species, potentially reducing the frequency of symptomatic recurrences and the need for conventional antifungal (azole) treatments. It has been evaluated in a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled feasibility trial in premenopausal women.
