Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Broncetyl-C is an oral combination of acetylcysteine (600 mg) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C, 75 mg) developed and marketed by Abian Pharmed. Acetylcysteine acts as a mucolytic agent by reducing disulfide bonds in mucoproteins, thereby thinning viscous mucus in the respiratory tract and facilitating its clearance. Ascorbic acid is included to enhance the antioxidant and therapeutic efficacy of acetylcysteine. Broncetyl-C is approved in Iran for the treatment of respiratory diseases characterized by excessive or thick mucus production, such as bronchitis, chronic asthma, pneumonia, and emphysema, and can also serve as an antidote for acetaminophen toxicity.
