Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nacbion is an oral fixed-dose combination tablet containing N-acetylcysteine (150 mg) and taurine (500 mg), developed by Bion Therapeutics. It is primarily indicated as an adjuvant therapy for the treatment of diabetic kidney disease (diabetic nephropathy) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The combination works synergistically to protect renal function and slow disease progression by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation. N-acetylcysteine acts as a precursor to glutathione, a major endogenous antioxidant, thereby replenishing cellular antioxidant defenses and neutralizing reactive oxygen species. Taurine, a naturally occurring amino acid, complements this action by stabilizing cell membranes, regulating osmotic pressure, and protecting renal cells from apoptosis and hyperglycemia-induced damage. Together, they help reduce microalbuminuria and preserve glomerular filtration rate in patients with early-to-moderate stage chronic kidney disease.
