Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Acetylsalicylic acid + pantoprazole** is an oral fixed-dose combination of the antiplatelet small molecule acetylsalicylic acid and the proton-pump inhibitor pantoprazole. Acetylsalicylic acid irreversibly inhibits platelet cyclooxygenase-1, suppressing thromboxane A2 production and platelet aggregation to support secondary prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Pantoprazole irreversibly inhibits the gastric hydrogen-potassium ATPase, lowering gastric acid secretion and reducing the risk of aspirin-associated gastroduodenal injury, ulceration, and bleeding. Fixed-dose capsule products have been studied at acetylsalicylic acid 100 mg or 150 mg plus pantoprazole 20 mg, and marketed products also include an 81 mg acetylsalicylic acid plus 20 mg pantoprazole capsule.
