ACNU + carboplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two small molecule alkylating agents—nimustine (also known as ACNU) and carboplatin. Nimustine is a nitrosourea compound that exerts its antitumor effect by alkylating DNA and inhibiting DNA replication and repair. Carboplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. This combination has been investigated primarily for the treatment of malignant gliomas (such as glioblastoma or anaplastic astrocytoma), especially in cases where standard therapies have failed[1]. The rationale for combining these agents lies in their complementary mechanisms of action against tumor cell DNA.
