Activated natural killer cells (Xuanwu Hospital) is an autologous cell therapy being developed for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. The production process involves isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from the patient, followed by the purification and ex vivo cultivation of natural killer (NK) cells for 14 to 21 days to achieve activation and expansion. These activated NK cells are then re-infused intravenously into the patient. The therapy is designed to harness the innate ability of NK cells to recognize and eliminate malignant cells through direct cytotoxicity and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. It is currently being evaluated by Xuanwu Hospital in Beijing as both a monotherapy and in combination with standard chemotherapy or targeted agents for patients with lung, breast, colon, pancreatic, and ovarian cancers.
