Overview

This investigational combination therapy involves the addition of activated Platelet Rich Plasma (aPRP) to autologous fat transfer (lipofilling) for the treatment of facial volume loss, specifically in the midface region. Developed by Bergman Clinics in collaboration with the University Medical Centre Groningen, the treatment utilizes the patient's own blood, which is processed via a centrifuge system (GPS System) and activated with calcium to release a high concentration of growth factors. The biological rationale is that these growth factors, such as PDGF, TGF-beta, and VEGF, enhance the survival of the fat graft and promote skin rejuvenation by stimulating angiogenesis and modulating adipose-derived stem cells. Clinical trial results indicated that while the addition of PRP significantly reduced postoperative recovery time, it did not show a statistically significant improvement in long-term graft volume maintenance or skin elasticity compared to fat transfer alone.
