acyl ghrelin + desacyl ghrelin

Acyl ghrelin + desacyl ghrelin is a combination of the two major circulating isoforms of the peptide hormone ghrelin. Acylated (AG) and desacyl (DAG) forms have distinct biological activities. Acyl ghrelin acts as an agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR-1a), stimulating appetite, adiposity, and growth hormone release. Desacyl ghrelin does not bind GHSR-1a but exerts independent effects on metabolism and cell differentiation through other mechanisms or possibly novel receptors. The combination has been shown to modulate insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism more favorably than acylated form alone in human studies[1][2]. Both forms also promote skeletal muscle differentiation via p38 activation independently of GHSR-1a[4][6]. This combination is under investigation for its potential roles in metabolic disorders, muscle wasting conditions, and cardiovascular diseases.
