Overview

A combination therapy consisting of adalimumab (a TNF-alpha antagonist) and glucocorticosteroids. Adalimumab (brand name Humira) blocks the activity of tumor necrosis factor, reducing inflammation in autoimmune conditions. Glucocorticosteroids provide additional anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. This combination therapy offers potential benefits for certain patient populations and has shown effectiveness in conditions like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (SJS/TEN). A recent study demonstrated that adalimumab in conjunction with corticosteroid therapy reduced hospitalization duration (22 ± 5.2 days vs. 25 ± 4.7 days), re-epithelization time (17 ± 3.4 vs. 19 ± 2.5 days), and exposure time to high-dose steroids (16 ± 2 vs. 18 ± 4 days) compared to traditional therapy.
