This is a combination of four malaria vaccine candidates designed to target both blood-stage and liver-stage malaria infection. The vaccines consist of inactivated viruses (adenovirus ChAd63 and modified vaccinia virus Ankara) that have been genetically modified to include malaria proteins AMA1 (apical membrane antigen 1) and MSP1 (merozoite surface protein 1). These proteins are expressed by the malaria parasite during both liver and blood-stage infection. The vaccines are designed to stimulate an immune response to these malaria proteins to provide protection against malaria infection. The AdCh63 vectors serve as the prime vaccination, while the MVA vectors are used as boosters to enhance the immune response.
