Overview

Adefovir dipivoxil + tacrolimus is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, typically considered in specialized clinical contexts such as organ transplantation where immunosuppression and antiviral therapy may be required. - **Adefovir dipivoxil** is a nucleotide analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI), primarily used as an antiviral agent against hepatitis B virus (HBV). It acts by inhibiting viral DNA polymerase, thereby blocking HBV replication. - **Tacrolimus** is an immunosuppressive agent and a calcineurin inhibitor that suppresses T-cell activation by binding to the FK506 binding protein (FKBP), subsequently inhibiting calcineurin and downstream cytokine transcription. Tacrolimus is used mostly to prevent organ rejection after transplantation and for certain autoimmune diseases[1][3]. Combining these agents may be relevant in clinical scenarios such as transplant patients with HBV infection, where both immunosuppression and antiviral coverage are necessary. There is no universally marketed product combining these two drugs; the combination would be employed as coadministration of the individual agents.
