Overview
Algonerv is a topical cream developed by Epitech for the management of localized neuropathic pain, particularly in conditions such as post-herpetic neuralgia and diabetic neuropathy. The formulation combines two active ingredients: adelmidrol and capsaicin. Adelmidrol is a synthetic analogue of palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) and belongs to the ALIAmide (Autacoid Local Inflammation Antagonism) family. It works by modulating the activation and degranulation of mast cells and other non-neuronal immune cells, thereby reducing neuro-inflammatory processes. Capsaicin acts as an agonist for the Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptor; upon topical application, it initially stimulates and then desensitizes nociceptive nerve endings, leading to a reduction in pain signaling. Together, these components address both the inflammatory and sensory aspects of chronic neuropathic pain.
