Overview

Adenosine‑5′‑Rp‑alpha‑thio‑triphosphate is a synthetic, non-hydrolyzable analog of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in which one of the oxygen atoms in the triphosphate chain is replaced by sulfur. This modification makes it resistant to hydrolysis by most ATPases and phosphatases, allowing it to act as a stable mimic of ATP in biochemical studies. It is commonly used as an experimental tool to study ATP-dependent enzyme systems, including kinases and adenylyl cyclase, where it can serve as both a substrate and an inhibitor. Once incorporated into proteins via thiophosphorylation, these proteins become resistant to dephosphorylation by protein phosphatases[3][4][6][7]. The compound has no approved medical indications and is primarily used for laboratory research.
