The combination of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and glycine propionyl-L-carnitine (GPLC) is a dietary supplement formulation primarily utilized as an ergogenic aid to enhance athletic performance and muscular power. Adenosine triphosphate, typically provided as disodium ATP, acts as an extracellular signaling molecule that binds to purinergic P2Y receptors on the vascular endothelium, triggering the release of nitric oxide and prostacyclins to induce vasodilation and improve blood flow to active tissues. Glycine propionyl-L-carnitine is a molecularly bonded form of propionyl-L-carnitine and the amino acid glycine; it serves to increase endogenous nitric oxide levels and facilitate the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta-oxidation. Together, these compounds are marketed to improve peak power output, increase total training volume, and reduce exercise-induced oxidative stress and fatigue.
