Adenovirus-specific CD3+ T cells are an investigational adoptive cellular immunotherapy consisting of donor-derived T cells (both CD4+ and CD8+) that have been isolated based on their reactivity to adenovirus antigens, typically the hexon protein. These cells are produced using an interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) cytokine capture system and immunomagnetic isolation from donor leukapheresis products. The therapy is designed to restore antiviral T-cell immunity in immunocompromised patients, particularly those who have undergone allogeneic bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell transplantation and are suffering from refractory adenovirus infections. By recognizing adenovirus-derived peptide epitopes, these transferred T cells can directly target and eliminate virus-infected cells.
