Overview

Adipose-derived allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (adAMSCs) are an investigational cell therapy developed by the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de la Fundación Jiménez Díaz (IIS-FJD) for the treatment of Crohn's disease, specifically targeting single inflammatory stenosis. These cells are harvested from the adipose tissue of healthy donors and are utilized for their potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. In clinical applications, such as the MEIC trial, the cells are administered via a laparoscopic procedure directly into the perilesional adipose tissue of the affected intestinal segment. The therapeutic rationale is based on the cells' capacity to secrete anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors, which aim to reduce local inflammation and potentially reverse or prevent the progression of fibrotic strictures in patients with Crohn's disease.
