Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are a population of multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) isolated from adipose tissue, typically through lipoaspiration. These cells are characterized by their ability to differentiate into multiple lineages and their potent secretome, which includes various growth factors, cytokines, and extracellular vesicles that promote tissue repair and regeneration. In the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, ADSCs are utilized for their regenerative potential, promoting hair follicle proliferation and survival by stimulating the dermal papilla and enhancing local vascularization. They function primarily through paracrine signaling, releasing factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) that improve the microenvironment of the scalp. Clinical applications often involve autologous transplantation, where the patient's own cells are processed and re-injected into the target area, sometimes in combination with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to synergistically improve hair density and diameter.
