Autologous adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are a type of mesenchymal stem cell harvested from a patient's own adipose tissue, typically via abdominal liposuction. Developed by the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis, these cells are processed, activated in a specialized tissue culture laboratory, and then injected intra-articularly into the knee joint. The therapeutic mechanism involves the secretion of bioactive factors that modulate inflammation, promote tissue repair, and potentially regenerate damaged cartilage, thereby improving joint function and reducing pain in patients with osteoarthritis.
