Adjuvant-free inactivated enterovirus 71 vaccine (Jiangsu CDC)

The adjuvant-free inactivated enterovirus 71 (EV71) vaccine is a biologic candidate developed by the Jiangsu Province Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the prevention of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). It consists of inactivated whole-virus EV71 (Vero cell-derived) viral antigens. Unlike most commercial EV71 vaccines that utilize aluminum-based adjuvants to enhance immune response, this specific formulation was evaluated in clinical trials to compare its safety and immunogenicity profile against adjuvanted versions. In a Phase 2 booster study, a 640 U adjuvant-free dose was tested in children to assess its ability to elicit neutralizing antibodies and maintain long-term immunity against EV71 infection.
