Overview

ALB 109564(a) is a semi-synthetic derivative of the vinca alkaloid vinblastine and functions as a novel tubulin inhibitor with potential antineoplastic activity. It binds to tubulin monomers and inhibits microtubule formation, disrupting mitotic spindle assembly and arresting tumor cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle. Preclinical studies demonstrated activity against various tumor types (including colon, non-small cell lung cancer, prostate), with clinical trials showing tolerability and preliminary evidence of efficacy in solid tumors not typically responsive to approved vinca alkaloids. The drug was developed using biocatalysis technology platforms for oncology indications[1][2][3][4][7].
