Overview

Aziworm is a branded generic combination medication consisting of albendazole and ivermectin, produced by Azista Bhutan Healthcare. This combination is utilized for its synergistic broad-spectrum anthelmintic activity against a variety of intestinal and systemic parasites. Albendazole, a benzimidazole derivative, interferes with the polymerization of tubulin, disrupting the microtubule-mediated uptake of glucose and leading to the parasite's energy depletion. Ivermectin, a macrocyclic lactone, binds selectively to glutamate-gated chloride channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells, increasing permeability to chloride ions and resulting in hyperpolarization, paralysis, and death of the parasite. Aziworm is primarily indicated for the treatment of mixed helminthic infestations, including lymphatic filariasis, strongyloidiasis, and soil-transmitted helminthiases.
