Albendazole + ivermectin is a combination therapy consisting of two small molecule anthelmintic agents used for the treatment and prevention of parasitic infections, specifically lymphatic filariasis caused by *Wuchereria bancrofti*. Albendazole works by binding to the beta-tubulin of the parasite, inhibiting microtubule polymerization and disrupting metabolic pathways. Ivermectin acts by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels, increasing cell membrane permeability to chloride ions and leading to hyperpolarization and paralysis of the parasite. This specific combination was evaluated in a Phase 4 clinical trial conducted by the Centre d'Appui à la lutte contre la Maladie (CNAM) in Mali to assess its impact on infection and transmission in rural endemic villages as part of mass drug administration efforts.
