Albiglutide + metformin is a combination therapy used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This drug regimen consists of albiglutide, a once-weekly, injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, and metformin, an oral biguanide that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose output. Albiglutide acts by binding and activating GLP-1 receptors, stimulating insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, inhibiting glucagon release, and slowing gastric emptying; metformin decreases hepatic gluconeogenesis and enhances peripheral glucose uptake.
