Overview

Albumin-platelet rich fibrin (Alb-PRF) is an autologous biological gel developed for the non-surgical reconstruction of deficient interdental papilla, commonly referred to as "black triangles" between teeth. The formulation is created by combining an albumin gel, produced by heating the patient's own platelet-poor plasma (PPP), with liquid platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) derived from the patient's peripheral blood. This combination was specifically designed to extend the degradation period of standard PRF from approximately two weeks to over four months, facilitating the sustained release of autologous growth factors and leukocytes. By providing a long-lasting scaffold and a reservoir of regenerative signals, Alb-PRF promotes soft tissue restoration in Class I or II interdental papillary deficiencies. The material is currently being evaluated in clinical trials led by researchers at Cairo University.
