Overview

This drug is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of albumin-bound paclitaxel (also known as nanoparticle albumin–bound paclitaxel or nab-paclitaxel), ifosfamide, and cisplatin. Albumin-bound paclitaxel is a solvent-free formulation of the taxane antineoplastic agent paclitaxel, bound to human serum albumin nanoparticles to improve delivery and reduce toxicity compared to conventional formulations[6][8][9]. Paclitaxel acts by stabilizing microtubules and inhibiting their depolymerization, thereby blocking cell division during mitosis[3][6][9]. Ifosfamide is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA strands, leading to inhibition of DNA replication and cell death. Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic that forms DNA adducts causing apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. This combination has been used in various solid tumors; regimens with similar components (using standard rather than albumin-bound paclitaxel) are established for relapsed testicular germ cell tumors and advanced/metastatic cervical cancer[1][2]. The use of the specific combination with albumin-bound paclitaxel may offer improved tolerability or efficacy over traditional formulations but remains under investigation.
