Overview

Albumin-bound paclitaxel + platinum refers to the combination of albumin-bound (nanoparticle) paclitaxel (commonly known as nab-paclitaxel or by the brand name Abraxane) with a platinum-based chemotherapy agent such as carboplatin or cisplatin. Albumin-bound paclitaxel is a solvent-free formulation of the microtubule inhibitor paclitaxel, in which the drug is bound to human serum albumin nanoparticles to enhance delivery and reduce toxicity compared to conventional formulations[2][3][6]. Platinum agents like carboplatin and cisplatin are DNA-damaging agents that form DNA crosslinks and inhibit DNA synthesis. The combination is used primarily for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), where it has demonstrated improved response rates over conventional regimens[4]. It may also be studied or used off-label in other solid tumors.
