Overview

Albuterol + atropine sulfate is a combination of two bronchodilator drugs used experimentally for the treatment of acute exacerbations of asthma and other obstructive airway diseases. Albuterol is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, leading to bronchodilation and improved airflow. Atropine sulfate is an anticholinergic (muscarinic antagonist) that inhibits the action of acetylcholine on muscarinic receptors in the airways, reducing bronchoconstriction mediated by the parasympathetic nervous system. While both agents individually have established roles in respiratory care, clinical studies have shown that their combination does not provide significant additional benefit over albuterol alone for acute asthma exacerbations[1][4]. This combination is not widely marketed or approved as a fixed-dose product.
