Overview

This is a combination of three inhaled medications—albuterol, flunisolide, and ipratropium bromide—used for the treatment of respiratory diseases such as acute severe asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Albuterol is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (SABA) that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle to open airways. Ipratropium bromide is a short-acting muscarinic antagonist (SAMA), an anticholinergic agent that blocks acetylcholine-mediated bronchoconstriction. Flunisolide is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces airway inflammation. The triple combination aims to provide additive or synergistic bronchodilation and anti-inflammatory effects, improving lung function more than dual therapy in acute severe asthma or COPD exacerbations[4][6]. This regimen has been studied in clinical trials for its efficacy in reducing hospital admissions and improving forced expiratory volume (FEV1) compared to dual combinations.
