Albuterol + tiotropium is a combination of two bronchodilator medications used primarily in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Albuterol is a short-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist that works by relaxing smooth muscle in the airways, leading to bronchodilation. Tiotropium is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) that blocks acetylcholine-mediated bronchoconstriction at muscarinic receptors in the airway smooth muscle, resulting in prolonged bronchodilation. The combination aims to provide both rapid and sustained relief from symptoms such as wheezing, breathlessness, and chest tightness by targeting different pathways involved in airway constriction[2].
