Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Albuterol sulfate is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (SABA) developed by Teva Branded Pharmaceutical Products R&D, Inc. for the treatment and prevention of bronchospasm in patients with asthma or exercise-induced bronchospasm. It acts by binding to beta-2 adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, leading to activation of adenyl cyclase and an increase in cyclic AMP, which results in muscle relaxation and bronchodilation. Teva's specific formulation is delivered via a multidose dry powder inhaler (eMDPI) known as the Digihaler, which incorporates an electronic module and sensors to record inhaler events and measure inspiratory flow, providing data to patients and healthcare providers via a mobile application. This technology is intended to help monitor adherence and inhaler technique in clinical and real-world settings.
