Albuterol sulfate HFA (Macleods Pharmaceuticals)

Albuterol sulfate HFA inhalation aerosol, developed by Macleods Pharmaceuticals, is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (SABA) bronchodilator. It is indicated for the treatment or prevention of bronchospasm in patients with reversible obstructive airway disease, including asthma and exercise-induced bronchospasm. The drug works by selectively binding to and activating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, which increases cyclic AMP levels and leads to muscle relaxation and airway opening. This formulation is a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) that utilizes hydrofluoroalkane (HFA-134a) as a propellant, delivering 90 mcg of albuterol base per actuation. It was developed as a generic alternative and demonstrated pharmacodynamic bioequivalence to reference albuterol HFA products in clinical trials.
