Overview

Albuvirtide + lopinavir-ritonavir is a combination antiretroviral regimen used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection, especially as a second-line therapy in patients failing first-line treatment. **Albuvirtide** is a long-acting, injectable peptide fusion inhibitor that binds to the gp41 subunit of HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein, preventing viral fusion with host cells. **Lopinavir-ritonavir** is a coformulation of two protease inhibitors; ritonavir is used at a low dose to boost the level of lopinavir by inhibiting CYP3A metabolism, thereby enhancing its antiviral activity. This regimen has been shown in phase 3 clinical trials (TALENT) to be non-inferior to triple-drug therapy and is a potential option for second-line HIV therapy due to its efficacy and safety profile[1][3][7].
