Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aldesleukin + ganciclovir is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated by Peking University People's Hospital for the treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in patients with rheumatic diseases. Aldesleukin is a recombinant form of interleukin-2 (IL-2) that acts as a biologic immunotherapy agent by stimulating the proliferation and activation of T cells and natural killer (NK) cells through the IL-2 receptor. Ganciclovir is a standard antiviral agent that inhibits viral DNA polymerase. The combination therapy aims to enhance the host's specific immune response against CMV while simultaneously inhibiting viral replication, potentially improving recovery rates and reducing the incidence of late-onset CMV disease in immunocompromised patients.
