Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aleglitazar + metformin is an investigational combination therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Aleglitazar is a dual agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) and gamma (PPARγ), designed to improve both lipid and glucose metabolism, thereby addressing dyslipidemia and insulin resistance in diabetes. Metformin, a biguanide, decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity. The combination has been studied in patients with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled on metformin alone to further improve glycemic control and cardiometabolic risk factors[1][3][4][6].
